Mondays at 12:00 noon in Waksman Rm 1001

Course Coordinators
Terri Goss Kinzy - RWJ Medical School
Andrew Vershon - Rutgers University

Description:  This is a graduate seminar course that focuses on the current techniques and findings of research in fungal systems.  The format of the course is that on alternate weeks a faculty member will lead a discussion on assigned papers on a particular topic of interest.  This session will serve as a background for work that will be presented the following week as part of the RU/RWJMS Yeast Meeting. Some of this material is intended only for students registered in the course and is not for general public use. Access to some of the links is therefore password protected. The material on these pages is provided for educational purposes only. Unauthorized use of this material is prohibited.

Class policies:

1. NO CELL PHONES!

2. All papers must be read before the paper discussion of that faculty member.  GENERALLY, papers will be available on the course web site about a week before the class where they will be discussed.  The faculty select their own papers, which will usually be 2 maybe 3.  Some may be reviews.  Be prepared for all the papers to be discussed, however, the format and which paper(s) will be discussed are decided by the discussion leader.

3. Students are welcome, in fact encouraged, to speak with each other before (and after) the paper discussions to share information and questions.

4. Grades are based on the following criteria:

a.  Attendance!  There will be a sign in sheet for each class (talks and paper discussions).  It is your responsibility to sign in.  Please contact Dr. Kinzy or Vershon if you are unable to attend due to an unavoidable conflict.

b. Participation!  This includes both paper discussions and presentations.  A question to the presenter is as good as an answer to a question posed during the discussions.  Questions are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED during the paper discussions as well.

c. Class assignments.  There may be a take home assignment related to one of the course topics.
